In order to support faster and more efficient chain onboarding, Axelar Foundation is preparing a proposal to temporarily reduce the minimum number of Verifiers required for Amplifier blockchain connections. The minimum today is 25; if approved, this change would reduce it to five, allowing Verifiers to add chain support progressively on new blockchain connections where node configuration may be relatively complicated.
Important: this change would not affect the security of existing connections. All chains registered via the Amplifier protocol continue to be subject to a 2/3 signing and voting threshold. Existing chains that have larger Verifier sets will require the same number of verifications to process any transaction. This change is intended to enable a smaller Verifier set that can get new chains up and running faster.
In the future, it may be possible to implement a long-term solution that would make Verifier thresholds an adjustable parameter for each new connection (subject to on-chain governance), allowing Amplifier to support fast and easy new-chain connections that match the security requirements of the connecting blockchain or off-chain resource.
